Cala Ratjada – translated “ray bay”, is located in the northeast of the island of Mallorca and forms part of the municipality of Capdepera. Originally a small fishing village, Cala Ratjada is nowadays one of the most popular holiday resorts on Mallorca. However, despite the tourist hustle and bustle in summer, it has been able to keep its Mediterranean and unique charm.
Cala Ratjada has much to offer
In the centre of Cala Ratjada you can find the pine square, “Placa del pins”. Its impressive pines not only give the square its name but also its unique character. Every Saturday the weekly market takes place here, where you can buy fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese and sausage. There are also typical Mallorcan specialities, as well as jewellery, clothing, leather goods and much more.
Cala Ratjada is also known for its fishing port, where you can find not only fishing boats, but also sports boats, yachts and excursion boats. On the promenade of the port there are several bars and restaurants which invite you to feast and linger.
Cala Gat
Take the time for a short walk from the port towards the small bay “Cala Gat”. This part of the promenade of the port was recently rebuilt and opened. In January 2020 parts of the path were badly damaged by a strong storm and became impassable.
Already on the way to Cala Gat you can enjoy the fantastic view while walking directly at the sea. At the end you will reach a beautiful small sandy beach with crystal clear water, which invites you to swim, snorkel and relax.
Lighthouse in sight
Cala Gat, like the lighthouse of Cala Ratjada, the “Far de Capdepera”, is located in “Punta de Capdepera”, at the most eastern point of the island of Mallorca. The “Far de Capdepera” is one of 5 still active lighthouses on Mallorca. From here you can enjoy fantastic views over the Mediterranean Sea, Mallorca and Capdepera. On cloudless days and clear view, you can even see the little sister island Menorca on the horizon from here. Around the “Far de Capdepera” there are many fantastic photo motives. Enjoy a spectacular sunrise, like in a movie with a unique scenery.
