The popular holiday resort of Cala Ratjada (part of the municipality of Capdepera) in the northeast of Mallorca has also been hit hard by the pandemic regarding COVID-19. A large part of the residents has been jobless since the end of the 2019 season. The people have used up their savings and have no more money for basic needs such as food and hygiene products. They depend on donations from the town hall, the church, and others, such as private individuals, organisations and companies.
These are people, like you and me, who through no fault of their own have fallen into a socially vulnerable situation, who have hit rock bottom, who are ashamed to ask for donations to have something to eat. People who in the good years had provided reliable services, be it as service staff in restaurants, hotels or as taxi drivers, or had even created jobs for others.
Out of this need and with the background of supporting the community, our fellow citizens and friends, an aid project was started.
We can not only party! We can help!
Mr. Michael Hoeper, from the forwarding company Richard Hoeper GmbH & CO KG, a customer of our company in Cala Ratjada, owns a forwarding company in Germany and specialises in food transports within Germany. During a first telephone conversation Mr. Hoeper said: “We want to show that we are not only great in partying, but that we really hold in high regard the friendship of the people from Cala Ratjada / Capdepera. I want to help!”
No sooner said than done!
That was the starting signal for the cooperation with us from CCC Real Estate. Without further ado, we made phone calls, organised, collected and transported. Within just 3 weeks, Mr. Hoeper was able to collect numerous donations from his generous clients in Germany, a total of 36 pallets with a value of approx. 100,000€, including 2 pallets of canned food, 4 pallets of potatoes, 2 pallets of eggs, 2 pallets of apples, ¼ pallet of long-life sausages, 3 pallets of coffee, mattresses, blankets, hygiene arti-cles, winter clothing and much more.
The journey is the reward!
On Monday evening, 25th of January 2021, the time had finally come, Mr. Michael Hoeper traveled almost 2,000 km with his truck from Germany to Mallorca at completely his own expense and arrived on 28th of January 2021, at 08:45 a.m. at the square of the town hall “Cap Vermell” in Cala Ratjada.
Together we are strong!
For unloading the truck and transporting the aid goods inside the town hall, hand lift trucks and a pallet truck were needed, which were provided by the Capdepera Town Council and transported by the family Soler (GRUP STEH). The Social Services Department of Capdepera Town Hall took care of the permits and the municipal police escorted the truck from the Capdepera industrial area to the unloading point. The brigade and the workers of “Projecte Millora” also actively supported the project. The Social Services Department and the Red Cross ensured that the aid goods were delivered and distributed to the people in most need.
We hope that we were able to contribute to alleviating the great need for a certain period of time for many people in need. We would like to thank all sponsors in Germany, the Hoeper forwarding company – especially Mr. Michael Hoeper for the idea and the commitment – and all other participants who helped to make this project possible.

PS: Hopes for a halfway acceptable tourist season are not high, so these donations are a drop in the ocean. In other communities the need is also huge!!! Whoever wants to help can do so by donating money to reputable institutions and projects. Every Euro counts.
