Cala Mesquida is a small, picturesque residential area in the north-east of the island of Mallorca. It is part of the municipal area Capdepera and is located in the middle of a nature reserve. Cala Mesquida is also surrounded by a fantastic mountain landscape.
Only a few residents have settled here and enjoy, especially in winter, a life in absolute tranquility and with lots of privacy.
In summer, the small settlement is brought to life by the three family hotels on site. Furthermore, you will find a small supermarket, a pharmacy, a bar and a restaurant. Especially for the Mallorcans the dreamlike beach is a popular destination. On a Sunday in August, it can get a bit cramped with parking – but it is worth it!
Caribbean in the Mediterranean
The settlement is best known for the sandy beach of the same name, which stretches over a length of about 300 metres. The white, fine sand and crystal-clear water offer an unforgettable holiday experience with Caribbean flair. Depending on the light conditions the sea shimmers in different colour combinations of azure blue and turquoise green. The bay is ideal for diving, snorkelling, swimming, surfing and even pedal boating.
Cala Mesquida – Animal paradise and more
Through the dune landscape behind Cala Mesquida a long path leads you partly over a wooden footbridge. Here you can observe one of the largest populations of gulls and cormorants on the Balearic Islands. Wren, nightingales and robins also live here. If you look closely, you will certainly discover the cheerful rabbits or dignified turtles that let the sunshine on their stomachs.
Explore the surroundings over hill and dale
Some beautiful and well-known hiking paths connect Cala Mesquida with other bays like Cala Agulla in Cala Ratjada or Cala Torta and Cala Mitjana. The ascent to the old watchtower “Talaia de Son Jaumell”, which rises on a hill to the east of the village, is also worth a visit and offers a fantastic view.
