Do you know the term geocaching? We’ll clear it up for you. Geocaching is a modern scavenger hunt with GPS devices. The term is made up of the two words geo = Greek “earth” and cache = English “hiding place”.
How does geocaching work?
So-called geocachers have to hide a container with a notebook (logbook) somewhere. Then they publish the coordinates of the hiding place on the internet (www.geocaching.com). Other geocachers start searching for the hiding place with the help of a GPS device. In the beginning, it also works with a GPS-enabled smartphone and a corresponding app. Once the hiding place has been successfully found, the name and date of the find are written down in the logbook. At home, the find is “logged” on the internet with a comment.
An adventure for everyone
There are now different types of caches. Among them are simple caches for families with children. But there are more challenging ones, such as climbing adventures or underwater caches that are only accessible to divers with equipment. Furthermore, there are so-called “riddle caches”. Here you have to do some research in advance to find out the coordinates of the hiding place. Another variant are so-called “multi-caches”. Here you go through several stations and have to solve corresponding tasks there.
Geocaching around the world and beyond
Numerous geocaches have been hidden all over the world. You can find them in the mountains, in parks or in city centres. A box has also been deposited on the International Space Station (ISS). However, this place will probably not be at the top of the ranking.
Geocaching on Mallorca
There is no better way to discover your favourite island in a completely new way. Hundreds of caches have also been hidden on Mallorca. Some of them are easy to access, but there are also some with a higher level of difficulty. Embark on a great discovery tour, e.g. in the Tramuntana mountains, to fantastic beaches or even inland. Leave the already familiar trails and discover bunker and cave caches. Enjoy the fantastic nature that this island has to offer on these paths.
We wish you lots of fun while searching!
