“Feeling, emotion and spontaneity are more important to me than perfection, reason and regimentation,” says painter Lydia Hoffnungsthal with a bright glance and her typical, cheerful smile.
A life marked by art
She grew up in an artistic home and the artist friends in this environment awakened in her an insatiable curiosity for colours, forms and materials already as a child. Thus her life path was clearly marked out.
In 1991, she graduated in fine arts from the Academy of Art and Design in Cologne as a student of Renate Lewandowski and Jörg Immendorf.
Special experiences and impressions
Among other things, she worked as a colour designer in animated films, which is reflected in her vivid works. She travelled the world intensively, absorbing colours, people, reflections and impressions into her soul, and the artistic results are powerful images with a great arc of tension, bright colours and a noticeable dose of optimism. The use of differently sized areas of colour in combination with contrasting materials such as silk, aged wood, unfired clay, bamboo, burlap, mats and glossy coats of paint leaves the viewer amazed and inspires their imagination.
Mallorca’s nature is her inspiration
During her forays through the wild nature of Mallorca, she visually takes the variety of flowers into her studio and transforms them into expressive flower paintings that fascinate and leave a lasting impression on people.
Since 1996, her centre of creativity has been on the east coast of Mallorca due to the light, nature, sea and social ties.
Worldwide prestige
Her works have been exhibited in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, North America, Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece and the UK at art fairs, galleries and public spaces.
In Port d’Andratx, in the art gallery “ArteCasa”, she has maintained a permanent exhibition for years.
