The March Gardens are located in Cala Ratjada, very close to the port, on a hilltop. The Mallorcan businessman Joan March acquired the hill and the windowless tower, Torre Cega. A garden should be created on the hill without removing the existing pine trees. Not an easy task!
Joan March was, however, one of the richest men in Spain and so a lot of money was invested in the design of the property. Well-known architects such as Guillem Reynés and Russell Page were involved in the project. A magnificent staircase leads to the entrance of the villa, the pines provide shade and lily ponds beautify the property. There is also a collection of sculptures.
Unfortunately, in 2001 a tornado devastated the site and 600 full-grown pines fell. The loving restoration took ten years and the garden is only partially available. The flair is still there and the property is definitely worth a visit!
After previous registration at the tourist office in Cala Ratjada the March gardens can be visited with guidance.
